WHAT IS A ROTARY CLUB?

The Original Rotary Club first met February 23, 1905 in Chicago, Illinois with Paul P. Harris, a lawyer, and three other gentlemen.  The name “Rotary” was chosen because the original meetings rotated from office to office. Hence “Rotary” was formed. Since the beginning, the Rotary ideas of friendship, fellowship, and service to others has spread to 36 geographical regions. The Hemet Sumise Rotary Club was chartered February 24, 1983 and meets every Thursday 7:00 am to 8:00 am.

WHAT IS A ROTARIAN?

A person who looks beyond self to community, nation, and the world; seeks the truth; lets fairness govern relationships; strives to benefit all in every inter-personal relationship. In short, puts “Service Above Self”.

HOW DOES ONE BECOME A MEMBER OF THE HEMET SUNRISE ROTARY CLUB?

Membership is by invitation. Members are chosen to represent their respective business or profession. The “Classification Principle” insures membership will include qualified representatives of each worthy business and profession in our community.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF A MEMBER?

Rotary is built upon fellowship and friendship which depends upon regular meeting attendance. It is understood that among busy business people problems of attendance may arise. If a member misses a meeting he or she is encouraged to attend a “make up” meeting at another Rotary Club. There are 32,000 Rotary Clubs in the free world with times and locations of the meetings listed in the Official Directory. Needless to say, each make-up affords the Rotarian a splendid opportunity to broaden their acquaintance, and to bring back to the Home Club information and ideas that can improve the club’s operations and programs. If four consecutive meetings are missed, membership may be terminated. Each member should attend 30% of the regular meetings of the home club during each half year unless exempted for good reason by the club’s Board of Directors.

THE ROTARIAN AND “SERVICE”

The emphasis of Rotary is to instill in the individual the IDEAL OF SERVICE. Members are encouraged and supported in their personal activities, in civic activities, youth services, and public service organizations.

The club undertakes a wide variety of service activities in vocation, community, club and international fields to promote goodwill and understanding. The Hemet Sunrise Rotary Club programs include:
